New Holland ARMRE 18016 – Armrest Module: Rear hitch draft control potentiometer - voltage too low

This fault code indicates that the signal voltage returning from the rear hitch draft control potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. Technically, this condition is almost always caused by an open circuit in the wiring, a short to ground, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the draft control potentiometer to the armrest control unit for chafed wires or pinched harnesses inside the armrest console

   Disconnect the potentiometer and the armrest controller to inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals

   Turn the key ON and use a digital multimeter to verify that the potentiometer is receiving the standard 5-volt reference and a solid ground from the controller

   Check the signal wire for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the armrest module, and test the signal wire for a short to ground

   If the wiring is intact, the 5V reference and ground are present, and the signal wire is not shorted, conclude that the potentiometer itself has failed

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Potentiometer

   Carefully remove the retaining screws/clips to open the armrest control pod and access the underside of the Electronic Hitch Relief (EHR) / draft control knobs.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty draft control potentiometer.

   Remove

   Remove the retaining nut or locking tab that secures the potentiometer to the armrest panel and pull the old unit out.

   Install

   Insert the new OEM potentiometer into the panel and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness connector into the new potentiometer.

   Reassemble

   Close and secure the armrest control pod.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition ON. Clear the ARMRE 18016 fault code from the system. Depending on the specific tractor model, you may need to perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration procedure to teach the controller the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.
