New Holland ARMRE 18017 – Armrest Module (ARMRE / ARU): Rear hitch draft control potentiometer - voltage too high.
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rear hitch draft control potentiometer that exceeds the maximum expected threshold (typically near 5.0V on a 5V reference circuit). This indicates an open circuit on the ground wire, a short circuit between the 5V reference wire and the signal return wire, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Remove the armrest console cover and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the draft control potentiometer for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or loose connector pins.
Disconnect the potentiometer and measure the resistance between the ground pin on the harness connector and a known good chassis ground (high or infinite resistance indicates an open ground circuit causing the high voltage fault).
Turn the key ON (engine off) and measure the voltage at the 5V reference pin and the signal pin on the harness (if the signal wire shows 5V while disconnected, there is a short to power in the harness).
Measure the resistance across the potentiometer itself while turning the knob. It should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking. If it reads open (infinite resistance), the potentiometer has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Armrest
Carefully remove the retaining screws for the right-hand armrest control panel/console cover to expose the underside of the EHR control knobs.
Remove the Potentiometer
Locate the draft control potentiometer (usually grouped with the position, drop rate, and height limit knobs) and disconnect its 3-pin electrical connector.
Swap/Replace
Unbolt the retaining nut (often a 3/8-32 nut) holding the potentiometer to the console bracket and pull the switch out. Install the replacement potentiometer and secure it with the retaining nut.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks firmly into place. Reinstall the armrest cover.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and clear the inactive fault codes from the Armrest Module. Perform a Hydraulic Lift Autocalibration (often prompted by code 1024) to teach the controller the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.
