ARMRE 18020

New Holland ARMRE 18020 – Armrest Controller: Rear hitch drop rate potentiometer - voltage too low

Issue description

This code indicates that the voltage signal coming from the rear hitch drop rate control knob (potentiometer) is below the acceptable operating range. This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the signal wire, an open circuit, a loss of the 5V reference voltage, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause

  1. Enter the tractor's H-Menu (specifically the H9 menu for switch and sensor test functions) via the instrument cluster keypad to view the live operation and voltage supply of the potentiometers

  2. Disconnect the drop rate potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the Armrest Controller is supplying a 5V reference to the sensor

  3. Check the wiring harness between the potentiometer and the Armrest Controller for open circuits, verify the ground connection, and ensure the signal wire is not shorted to ground

  4. Check the displayed potentiometer reading during calibration. If the value is completely out of range or stuck low regardless of knob position, the potentiometer has failed

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Armrest

Disassemble the armrest control console to access the Electronic Draft Control (EHR) / rear hitch potentiometer cluster.

  3. Inspect Connectors

Inspect the specific connector for the drop rate potentiometer for pushed-out pins or corrosion.

  4. Replace Component

If the wiring tested good in the diagnostic phase, remove the faulty drop rate potentiometer and install the replacement unit.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console.

  6. Calibrate

Reconnect the battery, turn the key switch ON, and perform a rear hitch calibration procedure so the Armrest Controller can learn the sweep values of the new potentiometer.
