New Holland ARMRE 18022 – Armrest Module (ARU / ARMRE): Rear hitch sensitivity control potentiometer - voltage too low

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rear hitch sensitivity dial that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit in the 5V reference or signal wire, a short to ground in the signal wire, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode and navigate to the H MENU (SWITCH & SENSOR TEST FUNCTIONS). Use the H9 test function to check real-time operation, voltage supplies, and signal readings of the armrest potentiometers.

   Disassemble the armrest control panel and visually inspect the wiring harness and connector at the rear hitch sensitivity potentiometer for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving a steady 5V reference and has a clean ground.

   Check the signal wire for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest Module (ARU).

   Test the signal wire for a short to ground.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Component

   Carefully remove the upper trim and retaining screws of the armrest console to access the Electronic Hitch Regulation (EHR) control pod.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If your multimeter tests revealed an open or shorted wire, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

   Replace the Potentiometer

   If the wiring and module outputs test perfectly but the voltage remains low, the potentiometer has failed internally. Remove the retaining nut/clips holding the sensitivity dial in place and install the replacement unit. (Note: Depending on the specific armrest revision, this may require replacing the integrated EHR switch pod rather than just a standalone dial).

   Reassembly and Clearing

   Reconnect the armrest harness, reassemble the console, and reconnect the battery.

   Turn the key on, clear the inactive 18022 fault code, and rotate the sensitivity dial while monitoring the H9 diagnostic menu to ensure the voltage sweeps smoothly without dropping out.
