New Holland ARMRE 18024 – Armrest Control Unit (ARU / ARMRE): EHR flow encoder position error

Issue description

The EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) flow encoder is a rotary switch/potentiometer located on the tractor's armrest. It is used by the operator to set the hydraulic flow rate for the remote valves. This code triggers when the control module detects an implausible, out-of-range, or erratic position signal from this encoder.

Check the cause

  1. Access the tractor's diagnostic mode and navigate to the H9 menu to check the operation of potentiometers, switches, and voltage supplies.

  2. Test the EHR flow encoder signal (often listed as channel 149). As you rotate the flow control dial, the display value should transition smoothly from 0.0 to 6.1.

  3. Check for dead spots in the encoder signal. If the value jumps erratically, drops to zero in the middle of the sweep, or does not change at all, the encoder has internally failed.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EHR flow encoder (connector H12) and the Armrest Controller (connector H4) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafing.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest Console

    Carefully remove the trim panels on the armrest to access the Integrated Control Panel (ICP) and the underside of the EHR switches.

  3. Inspect the Harness

    Disconnect the H12 connector at the flow encoder and the H4 connector at the armrest controller. Inspect for moisture or damaged pins. Test for continuity across the harness.

  4. Replace the Component

    If the wiring is intact but the H9 diagnostic test failed, remove the faulty EHR flow encoder switch from the console and install the replacement. (Note: On some specific trim levels, the encoder is soldered directly to the ICP circuit board, requiring replacement of the ICP module).

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

    Reconnect all harnesses and reassemble the armrest. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Faults

    Access the HB menu (Display stored fault codes) or H8 menu (Clear stored calibration information/EEPROM) to clear the inactive 18024 code and verify the repair.
