New Holland ARMRE 18031 – ARU: Front Hitch Potentiometer Voltage High

The electronic control unit is receiving a voltage signal from the front hitch position/pressure control dial (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold (typically near or above 5 volts). This is usually caused by a short circuit to voltage, a broken/open ground wire in the sensor circuit, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Access the tractor's H9 menu (Switch & Sensor Test Functions) via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool to monitor the live voltage of the front hitch potentiometer. If the voltage is pegged at maximum regardless of knob position, proceed to wiring checks.

   Remove the armrest control panel cover and inspect the wiring harness leading to the potentiometer. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected pins.

   Test the ground circuit at the potentiometer connector using a multimeter. An open ground is the most common cause of a voltage too high code.

   Verify the 5V reference circuit is supplying the correct voltage and is not shorted to a 12V battery source.

   Test the signal wire for continuity back to the Armrest Module (ARU).

   If the ground and 5V reference are intact, and the signal wire is not shorted to power, the potentiometer itself has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest console (Classic or Sidewinder II armrest, depending on the model) to access the underside of the control panel.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Locate the front hitch position/pressure control potentiometer. Disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut or mounting screws holding the rotary knob and potentiometer in place, and pull the sensor out.

   Install the New Sensor

   Insert the replacement potentiometer, secure it with the retaining hardware, and reattach the control knob. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble and Power Up

   Reinstall the armrest console covers and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Turn the key on and calibrate the new potentiometer via the tractor's calibration menu. Failure to do so will likely trigger a secondary code (e.g., Code 9006: Front hitch position potentiometer - not calibrated).
