New Holland ARMRE 18032 – Armrest Module (ARMRE / ARU): Front hitch position / pressure control potentiometer - voltage too low

The signal voltage returning from the front hitch position sensor (potentiometer) has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This is typically caused by a short to ground in the sensor's signal wire, an open circuit, or a complete internal failure of the potentiometer itself, which disables automated front hitch functions.

   Inspect the physical linkage connecting the potentiometer to the front hitch to ensure the linkage arm hasn't snapped, bent, or become disconnected.

   Unplug the potentiometer at the front hitch and check the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Turn the key to the ON position and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference voltage and a solid ground from the Armrest module.

   Test the signal wire between the sensor connector and the Armrest module for continuity and for a short to ground (which directly causes the voltage too low condition).

   If the wiring is intact, the 5V reference is present, and the ground is good, conclude that the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the front hitch to the ground (if possible) to relieve tension, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Removal

   Locate the front hitch position potentiometer on the front linkage assembly. Disconnect the electrical plug.

   Dismounting

   Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket and carefully detach the mechanical linkage arm. Note the orientation of the sensor shaft before removal.

   Installation

   Mount the new potentiometer in the exact same orientation. Reattach the mechanical linkage arm and tighten the mounting hardware.

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor and reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration

   Perform a hydraulic lift autocalibration via the tractor's control screen (ICP/monitor). This teaches the Armrest module the new minimum and maximum voltage values corresponding to the hitch's fully lowered and fully raised positions.
