New Holland ARMRE 18039 – Armrest Controller (ARM / ARU): Front hitch position drop rate potentiometer - voltage too low
Issue description
The signal voltage returning from the potentiometer (which controls how fast the front hitch lowers) has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to a failed potentiometer, an open circuit in the signal or 5V reference wire, or a short to ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Use the on-board diagnostics (H MENU, specifically H9) to monitor the live voltage of the front hitch drop rate potentiometer while turning the knob to see if voltage drops out completely or stays flat at 0V.
Remove the armrest cover and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the EHR potentiometers for pinched wires, broken solder joints, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the controller is sending a 5V reference signal and a good ground to the connector.
Check the signal wire for continuity back to the Armrest Controller and ensure it is not shorted to ground.
If the 5V and ground are present but the signal voltage is dead when plugged in, conclude that the potentiometer itself has failed internally.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Ensure the machine is fully powered down before beginning electrical work.
Remove the retaining screws on the armrest control console to access the underside of the EHR control panel.
This provides access to the internal components of the armrest.
Locate the front hitch drop rate potentiometer on the panel.
Identify the specific potentiometer controlling the front hitch drop rate.
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the faulty potentiometer.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the component.
Pull the plastic control knob off the top of the potentiometer shaft on the upper side of the armrest.
Remove the external knob to free the potentiometer shaft.
Remove the retaining nut/hardware securing the potentiometer to the armrest housing and pull the old unit out from the bottom.
Extract the failed potentiometer from the armrest assembly.
Insert the new potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and press the control knob back onto the shaft.
Install the replacement component and reattach the external knob.
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new potentiometer.
Ensure the plug is securely seated.
Reassemble the armrest console.
Replace the retaining screws and secure the armrest cover.
Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes. Test the front hitch drop rate function to ensure the voltage is now reading correctly in the H9 diagnostic menu.
Verify the repair by checking the live voltage in the on-board diagnostics.
