New Holland ARMRE 18049 – ARU: Joystick 1 X-Axis Voltage Too Low

The signal voltage coming from the X-axis potentiometer on Joystick 1 has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold expected by the Armrest Controller (ARU). This condition is typically caused by a failed potentiometer inside the joystick, an open circuit in the wiring harness, or a short to ground.

   Access the Armrest controller diagnostic menu via the tractor's display (H9 - Voltmeter diagnostic) to view the live voltage readings of the joystick potentiometers to confirm if the X-axis signal is genuinely bottoming out.

   Inspect the wiring harness between Joystick 1 and the Armrest Controller (ARU) for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected pins.

   Disconnect the joystick and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground from the ARU. If the 5V reference is missing, the fault lies in the harness or the ARU itself. If power and ground are present but the signal wire reads low/zero voltage when plugged in, the joystick sensor has failed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Joystick

   Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console cover to expose the base of the joystick and its wiring connections.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector(s) routing from the joystick to the armrest harness.

   Remove the Assembly

   Remove the mounting hardware (usually 2 to 4 screws) securing the joystick assembly to the armrest chassis. On some specific lever controls, the sensor itself can be swapped out by removing 2 screws and 3 wires without replacing the whole mechanical lever.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement joystick or sensor, secure the screws, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console cover and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Enter the tractor's calibration menu and perform the joystick calibration procedure. This teaches the Armrest Controller the new minimum, maximum, and center voltage values for the X and Y axes of the new joystick.
