ARMRE 18050

New Holland ARMRE 18050 – Armrest Controller Module (ARU / ARMRE / ACM): Joystick 1 X-axis position - voltage too high

Issue description

The controller detects that the signal voltage from the X-axis potentiometer has exceeded the maximum expected threshold (usually near the 5V reference limit). This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the signal wire, an open ground circuit to the sensor, or an internal failure of the joystick's potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • T7.185
  • T7.200
  • T7.210
  • T7.220
  • T7.235
  • T7.250

  • T6070

Check the cause

  1. Monitor live data using the 'H9' diagnostic menu or CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the Joystick 1 X-axis voltage is stuck high regardless of physical movement.

  2. Remove the armrest cover and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to Joystick 1 for pinched wires, chafing, or damaged connector pins.

  3. Disconnect the joystick and use a multimeter to verify it is receiving a steady 5V reference and has a solid ground.

  4. Test the X-axis signal wire for continuity back to the Armrest Controller and ensure it is not shorted to a 12V or 5V power source. If wiring tests perfectly, the internal potentiometer has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.

  2. Disassembly

Remove the retaining screws holding the plastic covers on the command armrest console to expose the joystick mounting base and wiring.

  3. Removal

Disconnect the electrical connector from the bottom of Joystick 1. Remove the mounting bolts/screws securing the joystick to the armrest frame and pull the faulty joystick out.

  4. Installation

Seat the new joystick assembly into the armrest and secure it with the mounting hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the armrest covers and reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

Power on the tractor. You must perform a joystick calibration procedure using the instrument cluster menu or the EST laptop. This allows the Armrest Controller to learn the new minimum, maximum, and center resting voltage values for the new X and Y potentiometers.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the stored ARMRE 18050 fault code and test the joystick for proper hydraulic/transmission operation.
