New Holland ARMRE 18052 – Armrest Control Module: Joystick 1 Y-axis position - voltage too high
Issue description
The control module is receiving a signal voltage from the Y-axis sensor (forward/backward movement) of Joystick 1 that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the signal wire, an open ground circuit on the sensor, or an internal failure of the joystick's potentiometer/sensor.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- T6 Series (T6.140 - T6.175)
- T7 Series (T7.170 - T7.315)
- T8 Series (T8.275 - T8.435)
- T9 Series (T9.390 - T9.700)
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of Joystick 1 inside the armrest for pinched wires, chafing, or moisture ingress.
Disconnect the joystick and verify that the connector is receiving a proper 5V reference and has a solid ground (an open ground will cause the signal voltage to float high).
Test the Y-axis signal wire between the joystick connector and the Armrest Control Module to ensure it is not shorted to a 12V or 5V power source.
Back-probe the Y-axis signal wire with the joystick connected and perform a sensor sweep test. If the voltage is stuck high (e.g., at 5V) regardless of physical movement, the joystick sensor has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage.
Disassemble Armrest
Remove the retaining screws and plastic trim panels on the SideWinder II armrest console to expose the joystick mounting base.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from Joystick 1.
Remove
Unbolt the faulty joystick assembly from the armrest and remove it.
Install
Mount the replacement joystick assembly and secure the hardware.
Reconnect
Plug in the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place and wires are routed safely away from pinch points.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest trim panels and reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Power on the tractor. You must perform a joystick calibration using the IntelliView display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). This allows the Armrest Control Module to learn the new minimum, center, and maximum voltage values for the Y-axis.
