New Holland ARMRE 18053 – Armrest Module (ARMRE / ARU): Joystick 1 proportional rocker switch - voltage too low
Issue description
The signal voltage returning from the proportional rocker switch on Joystick 1 has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit, a short circuit to ground in the signal wire, or an internal failure of the switch's potentiometer.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- T7 Series
- T8 Series
- T9 Series
Check the cause
Use onboard diagnostics (H Menu, e.g., H9) to check live operation and voltage supply of the potentiometers
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between Joystick 1 and the Armrest Module for chafing, pinched wires, or loose/pushed-out pins
Verify with a multimeter that the rocker switch is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and has a good ground
Test the signal wire from the joystick connector to the Armrest Module for continuity to ensure there is no open circuit or short to ground
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during the repair.
Access the Joystick
Carefully remove the plastic trim and retaining screws on the armrest console to expose the joystick assembly and its wiring harness.
Inspect and Clean
Disconnect the electrical connector for Joystick 1. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and ensure no pins are corroded or bent.
Replace the Component
If the wiring tests good but the voltage signal remains out of range, the switch has failed internally. Remove the faulty proportional rocker switch from the joystick grip (or replace the entire Joystick 1 assembly if hardwired).
Reassembly
Install the new switch/joystick, reconnect the electrical harness, and reassemble the armrest console.
Recalibration
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. Use the tractor's electronic management system (via the instrument cluster or a dealer diagnostic tool) to clear the inactive fault code and recalibrate the joystick.
Parts you might need
(1)Joystick 1 Proportional Rocker Switch (or Complete Armrest Joystick Assembly)
Specific OEM part numbers are not published; reference the specific tractor's serial number in the CNH parts catalog to determine if the rocker switch is available as a standalone sub-component or if the full joystick handle is required.
