New Holland ARMRE 18054 – ARMRE / ARU (Armrest Controller / Arm Rest Module): Joystick 1 proportional rocker switch - voltage too high

The signal voltage returning from the proportional rocker switch on Joystick 1 to the controller has exceeded the maximum expected threshold (typically above 4.5V or 4.8V on a 5V reference circuit). This condition is most commonly caused by an open ground circuit in the joystick wiring, a short to power (5V or 12V) on the signal wire, or a failed internal potentiometer/switch inside the joystick assembly.

   Check for shared faults (e.g., 18062) to verify if the Armrest Controller has a 5V reference circuit shorted to battery voltage

   Inspect the wiring harness between Joystick 1 and the Armrest Controller (ARU) for pinched wires, chafing, or damaged connector pins

   Test the ground circuit at the joystick connector using a digital multimeter (an open ground is the most common cause of a voltage too high code)

   Test the signal wire for a short to a 12V or 5V power source

   Test the resistance sweep of the proportional rocker switch to determine if the internal track is broken or out of specification

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during module/component disconnection.

   Access the Joystick

   Remove the retaining screws on the Sidewinder armrest console to lift the upper trim panel and expose the joystick mounting base.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the main electrical connector(s) routing to Joystick 1.

   Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest chassis.

   Replace the Component

   Depending on the specific model, replace just the proportional rocker switch/knob assembly, or replace the entire CommandGrip joystick as a single sealed unit.

   Mount the new joystick, plug in the electrical connector, and reinstall the armrest trim.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate
