New Holland ARMRE 18055 – ACM (Armrest Controller Module): Joystick 2 X-axis position - voltage too low
Issue description
This fault indicates that the signal voltage from the X-axis potentiometer on Joystick 2 has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold (typically below 0.5V). If the tractor is not physically equipped with a second joystick, it may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- New Holland T7 Series (T7.220, T7.270)
- New Holland T8 Series
- New Holland T9 Series
Check the cause
Verify Machine Equipment (Configuration Check): Determine if the tractor is actually equipped with a secondary joystick (Joystick 2). If the machine only has one joystick, the ACM configuration is incorrect.
Inspect Wiring and Connectors: If Joystick 2 is present, inspect the wiring harness between the joystick and the ACM. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or a short to ground on the X-axis signal wire.
Check Reference Voltage: Disconnect the joystick and use a multimeter to verify that the ACM is supplying a 5V reference and a good ground to the joystick potentiometer.
Test the Potentiometer: Use the tractor's H-Menu (Switch & Sensor Test Functions) or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live voltage of the Joystick 2 X-axis. If the voltage stays pinned low while moving the joystick left and right, the internal potentiometer has failed.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Scenario A: Tractor does NOT have Joystick 2. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Navigate to ACM Configuration
Navigate to the ACM Configuration menu (Advanced Configuration).
Locate Joystick 2 parameter
Locate the parameter for "Joystick 2" (e.g., Config B/b 8.1 / 8.2).
Change configuration
Change the configuration status to "Not Installed" or disable the input.
Save and clear
Save the configuration, cycle the key, and clear the fault code.
Disconnect battery
Scenario B: Tractor DOES have Joystick 2. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground.
Remove trim panels
Remove the armrest trim panels to access the wiring beneath Joystick 2.
Repair wiring
If wiring damage is found (short to ground causing the low voltage), repair the harness using OEM-approved splice connectors and heat shrink.
Unplug joystick
If the wiring and 5V reference are intact, the joystick assembly itself is faulty. Unplug the main connector for Joystick 2.
Remove joystick
Unbolt the joystick base from the armrest console and remove the unit.
Install replacement
Install the replacement joystick assembly and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect wiring and trim
Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the armrest trim.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Calibrate joystick
Perform a Joystick Calibration using the EST or the tractor's onboard calibration menu (often accessed via the H-Menu) to teach the ACM the new neutral, maximum left, and maximum right voltage values.
Clear fault and test
Clear the fault code and test hydraulic functions.
Parts you might need
(3)Electro-Hydraulic (EH) Joystick Assembly / Armrest Joystick 2
Always verify the exact part number with a New Holland dealer using the tractor's PIN/Serial Number, as the internal CAN/analog outputs and button configurations must match the ACM programming exactly.
