ARMRE 18057

New Holland ARMRE 18057 – Armrest Controller (ARMRE / ARU / ACM): Joystick 2 Y-axis position - voltage too low

Issue description

The signal voltage coming from the Y-axis potentiometer/sensor on Joystick 2 has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold, indicating an open circuit or a short to ground. This fault is frequently triggered by a software mismatch where the Armrest Control Module (ACM) is configured to look for a Joystick 2 input that does not exist on that specific machine build or is mapped incorrectly.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T6 series
  • New Holland T7 series (T7.190, T7.210, T7.220 - T7.270 AutoCommand/Power Command)
  • New Holland T8 series
  • New Holland T9 series

Check the cause

  1. Verify ACM configuration using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to ensure Joystick 2 is properly enabled or disabled based on the physical equipment.

  2. Inspect wiring and connectors (X844 / X845) between Joystick 2 and the Armrest Control Unit for backed-out pins, corrosion, or wire chafing.

  3. Test the 5V reference and ground at the joystick connector using a multimeter.

  4. Measure the Y-axis signal wire voltage to check for a short to ground or an open circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Software Correction

Connect the CNH EST diagnostic tool. Navigate to the ACM (Armrest Control Module) configuration menu. If the tractor does not physically have Joystick 2, or if it was recently updated/replaced, correct the configuration to match the machine's build and save the dataset.

  2. Harness Repair

If the configuration is correct but the voltage is genuinely low, trace the signal wire from the joystick (Connector X844/X845) back to the Armrest Controller. Repair any broken wires or shorts to ground.

  3. Component Replacement

If the wiring is intact, the 5V reference is present, and the configuration is correct, the Y-axis potentiometer inside Joystick 2 has failed internally. Replace the Joystick 2 assembly.

  4. Calibration

After replacing the joystick or updating the configuration, clear the fault codes and perform a basic assurance test/calibration of the armrest controls to ensure the module recognizes the full sweep of the new joystick's Y-axis.
