ARMRE 18058

New Holland ARMRE 18058 – ACM (Armrest Control Module): Joystick 2 Y-axis position - voltage too high

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the signal voltage coming from the Y-axis potentiometer on Joystick 2 is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. It may indicate incorrect configuration of the ACM (looking for an uninstalled joystick), a short to power in the circuit, or a failed potentiometer.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T7.220
  • New Holland T7.235
  • New Holland T7.250
  • New Holland T7.260
  • New Holland T7.270

  • New Holland T6080
  • New Holland T4 Series
  • New Holland T5 Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify ACM Configuration: Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or use the in-cab display to ensure the software correctly reflects whether Joystick 2 is actually installed.

  2. Check for associated codes: Look for related 5V reference codes (e.g., 18062) which would indicate a broader harness short rather than an isolated joystick failure.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness: Check wiring between Joystick 2 and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for chafing or pinched wires that could cause the Y-axis signal wire to short to a 12V or 5V power source.

  4. Test the potentiometer: Back-probe the Y-axis signal wire at the joystick connector. Monitor voltage while moving the joystick along the Y-axis. If voltage remains stuck near 5V regardless of movement, the potentiometer has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Reconfigure the ACM (If Applicable)

If Joystick 2 is not physically installed on the machine, use the diagnostic tool to correct the Armrest Control Module configuration so it stops looking for the Joystick 2 Y-axis signal. Clear the code.

  2. Repair Harness Shorts

If the configuration is correct but a short to power is found in the harness during your diagnostic checks, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness between the joystick and the ACM.

  3. Replace the Potentiometer / Joystick

If the wiring is intact and the configuration is correct, the Y-axis potentiometer inside the joystick is faulty. Depending on the specific joystick model, replace just the potentiometer or the entire joystick assembly.

  4. Calibrate the Joystick

After replacing the potentiometer or joystick assembly, turn the key on, clear the inactive 18058 fault code, and perform the joystick calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor to teach the ACM the new minimum, maximum, and center voltage values.
