New Holland ARMRE 29 – Armrest Controller: Aux 1st remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed

The system has detected an out-of-range signal (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or erratic voltage) from the potentiometer that monitors the physical position of the first auxiliary hydraulic remote lever located in the cab. Because the controller cannot accurately determine where the operator is positioning the lever, it will typically disable the 1st remote valve as a safety precaution.

   Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness connecting to the 1st remote valve lever for chafed wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion.

   Test the potentiometer resistance using a multimeter. A healthy potentiometer typically tests at approximately 2.7k ohms from the center pin to either outside pin, and 0 ohms across the outside pins. An open circuit to the center pin indicates internal failure.

   Perform a swap test by temporarily swapping the electrical connection between the 1st and 2nd lever potentiometers. If the fault code changes to ARM 39, the potentiometer is faulty. If the code remains ARM 29, the issue lies within the wiring harness or the Armrest Controller circuit board.

   Check the Armrest Controller circuit board for broken solder joints where the pins from the plugs solder to the board, which is a known issue on older models like the TG series.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN bus modules.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest console to lift the cover and expose the electro-hydraulic remote lever assemblies.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the 1st remote valve lever. Unbolt the lever assembly or unclip the individual potentiometer from the lever housing (depending on the specific model's assembly design).

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement potentiometer or lever assembly into the armrest housing and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble

   Carefully reinstall the armrest console cover, ensuring no wires are pinched.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. You must perform an Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration via the tractor's onboard display or using a diagnostic tool like Jaltest to teach the Armrest Controller the new minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage limits.
