New Holland ARMRE 69 – Armrest Controller: HITCH POSITION command potentiometer is failed

The tractor's data bus has signaled that the hitch controller received a failure signal from the armrest controller regarding this specific potentiometer. This means the physical rotary potentiometer in the cab (attached to the hitch position control lever) is either sending an out-of-range signal, has an open/shorted circuit, or the controller itself has a software execution error.

   Inspect the connector ends at the potentiometer and the armrest controller for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins.

   Verify potentiometer resistance by disconnecting it and measuring across the outer cavities (Cavity 1 to Cavity 3); it should read between 900 and 1100 ohms.

   Perform a sweep test by measuring resistance between the signal pin (Cavity 2) and ground pin (Cavity 3). Resistance should change smoothly from 0 to approximately 1000 ohms (or 4 kohms) over a 120-degree clockwise rotation without dropouts.

   Check controller voltage at the potentiometer connector. Cavity 1 (high side) should receive 8 volts of regulated power from the controller, and Cavity 3 is the ground.

   Check the wiring harness between the hitch/armrest controller and the potentiometer for high resistance or an open circuit.

   Power down

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery ground.

   Remove

   Remove the access panels on the right-hand console / armrest control panel to expose the underside of the hitch control levers.

   Disconnect

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the hitch position command potentiometer.

   Remove

   Remove the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) and pull the control lever/knob assembly to free the potentiometer from the console bracket.

   Install

   Install the new potentiometer, ensuring the alignment tab seats correctly in the bracket so the 120-degree sweep matches the physical travel of the lever.

   Reinstall

   Reinstall the retaining nut and the control lever.

   Reconnect

   Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the right-hand console.

   Power on

   Power on the tractor and clear the fault codes.

   Calibrate

   Perform a hitch controller calibration after replacing the potentiometer. If the calibration is not completed successfully, the system will throw a secondary fault code, ARM 9021.
