ARMRE 89

New Holland ARMRE 89 – Armrest Controller: Aux 1st remote valve FLOW potentiometer is failed

Issue description

The rotary knob/potentiometer on the armrest—which the operator uses to adjust the hydraulic flow rate for the #1 auxiliary remote valve—has failed, has an open/short circuit, or is sending an out-of-range electrical signal to the controller.

Applies to these machines

  • T4.80 to T4.110
  • T6.140 to T6.175
  • T6030 to T6090
  • T7.170 to T7.315
  • T7030 to T7070
  • T8.275 to T8.435
  • T9.435 to T9.700
  • TG245

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the 1st remote flow potentiometer for loose pins, corrosion, or pinched wires

  2. Perform a component swap test by swapping the 1st remote flow potentiometer with the 2nd remote flow potentiometer to see if the fault code changes to the 2nd remote

  3. Verify that the armrest controller is supplying the correct reference voltage to the sensor

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery

Prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest.

  2. Remove the retaining screws to open the armrest console cover

Exposes the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) and EHR flow control section.

  3. Locate the potentiometer

Locate the potentiometer for the 1st auxiliary remote valve.

  4. Disconnect the electrical harness connector

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the failed potentiometer.

  5. Remove the flow control knob and retaining nut

Remove the flow control knob from the top of the armrest, then undo the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) holding the potentiometer to the panel.

  6. Remove the old potentiometer and install the new replacement part

Secure it with the retaining nut and reattach the knob.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness and reassemble

Reconnect the electrical harness and reassemble the armrest console.

  8. Power on the tractor and clear the inactive fault codes

You may need to perform a remote valve calibration via the IntelliView / Pro700 monitor to ensure the new potentiometer's sweep is recognized by the controller.
