ARMRE 9021

New Holland ARMRE 9021 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Hitch position command potentiometer calibration results not acceptable.

Issue description

During the hitch calibration process, the system detected that the values from the hitch position command potentiometer (the cab control lever/dial used to set the hitch height) were outside the expected or valid range. Specifically, if either the 'up' or 'down' position was not valid during the ARM HITCH calibration, this fault code is recorded.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland TG Series (TG210, TG230, TG255, TG285)
  • New Holland T8000 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the calibration procedure was not simply done incorrectly

  2. Check if the hitch position command potentiometer or the physical command lever is loose, improperly assembled, or physically out of its working range

  3. Verify the Armrest Controller's power supply and ground connections

  4. Check the wiring circuit for the hitch position command potentiometer for shorts or open circuits

  5. Rule out an Armrest Controller memory defect

Repair steps

  1. Inspect the Command Lever

Access the armrest console and physically inspect the hitch position command lever and potentiometer assembly. Ensure the potentiometer shaft is not loose from the lever. Tighten if necessary.

  2. Test the Circuit

Using a multimeter, test the voltage of the hitch position command potentiometer circuit while moving the lever from the fully lowered to the fully raised position. Ensure the voltage scales smoothly without dropping out.

  3. Verify Power and Ground

Check the power and ground pins at the Armrest Controller harness to ensure the module is receiving clean voltage.

  4. Replace if Faulty

If the potentiometer has a dead spot or fails the sweep test, replace the hitch position command potentiometer.

  5. Recalibrate

Re-run the ARM HITCH calibration procedure. You must ensure that both the maximum UP and maximum DOWN positions are registered as valid during the calibration sequence, or the 9021 code will trigger again.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Hitch Position Command Potentiometer (Cab/Armrest)

Located inside the cab on the right-hand Armrest Controller console. Depending on the specific tractor model and armrest revision, this potentiometer is sometimes serviced as a standalone electrical switch/sensor, or it may be integrated into a larger multi-function handle/armrest sub-assembly.
