New Holland ATC 114 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) Module / HVAC Control Unit: Outlet sensor shorted to ground.

The outlet sensor is a temperature probe used by the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system to monitor the temperature of the air exiting the HVAC vents. When the system detects a 'short to ground,' it means the signal voltage has dropped to near zero, usually due to a failed internal thermistor or a chafed wire touching the machine's chassis. This prevents the ATC from accurately regulating cab temperature and blower speed.

   Enter Diagnostic Mode: On some New Holland ATC panels, press the 'ambient' button 3 times within 5 seconds to cycle through active errors.

   Test Sensor Resistance: Disconnect the outlet sensor and measure resistance across the pins with a multimeter. Compare to the service manual; out of range or a dead short indicates a faulty sensor.

   Trace the Wiring: If the sensor tests good, trace wires from the sensor to the ATC module, looking for pinched, melted, or chafed insulation grounding against the frame.

   Inspect Connectors: Inspect the connector at the rear of the ATC control panel for pushed pins, moisture, or corrosion, and clean if necessary.

   Access the HVAC Plenum

   Locate the HVAC unit (usually under the cab roof, behind the seat, or under the console depending on the machine).

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the outlet temperature sensor, which is inserted directly into the main discharge duct or plenum actuator area.

   Remove the Sensor

   Unplug the electrical connector and carefully twist/pull the sensor out of the duct housing.

   Repair or Replace

   If the sensor failed the resistance test, install a new sensor. If the wiring was shorted, splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, or replace that section of the harness.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Plug the new sensor in, reassemble the HVAC access panels, and turn the key on. Clear the fault codes and test the ATC system to ensure the blower speed and temperature blend doors respond correctly to cab temperature changes.
