New Holland ATC 117 – ATC (Automatic Temperature Control): Outside air sensor open or shorted to power.

This indicates a circuit failure where the climate control system is receiving a voltage signal from the outside ambient air temperature sensor that is out of the expected range. Specifically, the circuit is either completely broken/disconnected (open circuit) or the sensor's signal wire is making contact with a 12V power source (shorted to power).

   Locate the outside air temperature sensor, typically mounted near the cab's fresh air intake filter housing or behind the front grille.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could be shorting to a 12V power wire.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins that could cause an open circuit.

   Perform a resistance test on the sensor using a digital multimeter. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the sensor has failed internally.

   Perform a voltage test on the harness side with the sensor disconnected and the ignition key ON. Detecting 12V on the signal return wire indicates a short to power in the wiring harness.

   Check for continuity between the sensor connector and the corresponding pins on the ATC controller to rule out a broken wire.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to power or a broken wire in the harness, cut out the damaged section and repair it using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors.

   If the sensor tested open, unclip or unbolt the faulty sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Install the new OEM air temperature sensor into the factory location.

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and use the tractor's diagnostic display menu (or a dealer scan tool) to clear the ATC 117 fault code.

   Turn on the ATC system and verify that the cab display reads the correct outside ambient temperature and that the A/C system regulates properly.
