New Holland DCU 19146 – DCU: Dosing Valve (electrical) | short circuit to ground | P2048 Reductant Injector - circuit low
Issue description
The system has detected a "short circuit to ground" in the electrical circuit controlling the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Dosing Valve (also known as the Reductant Injector). This means the voltage returning to the controller is lower than the expected threshold, indicating that the electrical current is finding a premature path to ground.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DCU to the DEF Dosing Valve on the exhaust pipe for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched sections touching the chassis.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the dosing valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, water intrusion, or melting that could bridge the pins to ground.
Using a multimeter, test the resistance across the pins of the DEF Dosing Valve. Check for continuity between the power pin and the metal body of the valve. Continuity to the body indicates an internal short.
Perform a harness isolation test: with the valve unplugged, turn the key ON and check if the short-to-ground code changes to an open circuit code (DCU 18147 / P2047). If it changes, the valve is internally shorted. If it remains, the wiring harness is shorted to the frame.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes. Ensure the exhaust system has completely cooled down, as the dosing valve is mounted directly to the hot exhaust pipe.
Disconnect Electricals
Locate the DEF Dosing Valve on the exhaust SCR catalyst tube. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the valve.
Disconnect Fluid Line
Carefully disconnect the DEF fluid supply line from the dosing valve. Note: Have a rag handy, as residual DEF fluid may leak out. Do not let DEF fluid spill onto electrical connectors.
Remove the Valve
Remove the mounting bolts or V-band clamp securing the dosing valve to the exhaust pipe. Remove the old valve.
Installation
Clean the mounting surface on the exhaust pipe. Install the new DEF Dosing Valve and tighten the mounting hardware to OEM torque specs.
Reconnection
Reconnect the DEF fluid line until it clicks or locks securely. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes & Test
Reconnect the battery. Use an electronic service tool to clear the DCU 19146 / P2048 fault codes. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature to verify that the SCR system doses correctly without leaks or returning codes.
