New Holland DCU 19415 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit): Empty UREA Tank _urea tank empty _P203F Reagent -fluid level in tank -too low

Issue description

The system has detected that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / AdBlue / Urea) tank level is empty or has dropped below the minimum allowable threshold. This triggers a warning and can eventually lead to an engine derate (limp mode) if not addressed.

Check the cause

  1. Manual Fluid Check: Physically check the DEF tank level. Compare the actual fluid level to what the gauge/sensor reports on the dashboard. If the tank has fluid but the gauge reads empty, the sensor is likely faulty.

  2. Fluid Quality Test: Inspect the DEF fluid quality. Poor-quality, degraded, or contaminated fluid can mimic a sensor failure. Test the fluid with a refractometer to ensure it has the proper urea concentration (32.5%).

  3. Wiring and Connector Inspection: Examine the wiring harness and connectors going to the DEF header unit. Look for signs of corrosion, pin damage, or open/short circuits that could interrupt the signal to the DCU.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery.

    Ensure the machine is completely powered down before beginning work.

  2. Drain the DEF tank into a clean container (if the fluid is still good) or dispose of it if contaminated.

    Prepare the tank for header removal.

  3. Locate the DEF header assembly on top of the DEF tank. Carefully disconnect the electrical harness connector.

    Disconnect the electrical connection to the DEF header.

  4. Disconnect the DEF supply and return lines from the header.

    Remove the fluid lines from the assembly.

  5. Remove the mounting bolts or retaining ring securing the DEF header to the tank.

    Unfasten the header from the tank.

  6. Carefully pull the old DEF header/sensor assembly out of the tank.

    Remove the faulty unit.

  7. Install the new DEF header assembly, ensuring the gasket/O-ring is properly seated to prevent leaks and contamination.

    Seat the new assembly securely with its seal.

  8. Secure the mounting bolts/ring, and reconnect the fluid lines and electrical connector.

    Reattach all physical and electrical connections to the new header.

  9. Refill the tank with fresh, certified DEF.

    Ensure the fluid is of high quality and proper concentration.

  10. Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and verify that the DEF gauge now reads the correct level. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the DCU 19415 / P203F fault codes.

    Verify the repair and clear the fault codes from the system.
