New Holland DCU 19581 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit): CAN bus communication error / E2SCR data frame failure
Issue description
The system fails to properly receive or validate the E2SCR (Exhaust 2 Selective Catalytic Reduction) data frame over the SAE J1939 network. The module responsible for DEF dosing is either not receiving messages from the engine controller, or the messages are timing out/corrupted due to a network interruption (accompanied by OBD-II identifier P0600).
Applies to these machines
9 machines- T7.220
- T7.235
- T7.250
- T7.260
- T7.270
- T8.xxx
- W190B

Check the cause
Check for companion CAN timeout codes (such as 19579, 19580, or EEC1 frame errors like 19595/19596). Multiple CAN codes usually point to a physical wiring issue rather than a failed module.
Inspect the CAN cables and connectors between the DCU and the main Engine Control Module (ECM) for interruptions, chafing, or corrosion.
Verify the DCU is receiving proper battery voltage and has a clean ground connection. A module dropping offline due to low voltage will trigger P0600 communication link errors.
Measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins to test terminating resistors. A healthy J1939 network should read approximately 60 ohms.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Hook up the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if DCU 19581 is currently 'Active' or 'Stored.'
Visual Harness Inspection
Trace the wiring harness from the DCU (typically located near the DEF tank/pump assembly) to the main chassis harness. Look for melted wires near the exhaust or physical damage from field debris.
Pinpoint Testing
Disconnect the DCU connector and check for moisture or pushed-back pins. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.
Repair Wiring
If a break or short is found in the CAN lines, repair the wiring using OEM-approved splicing methods and heat-shrink tubing.
Module Replacement (If Necessary)
If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN resistance all test perfectly but the DCU still cannot establish communication, the DCU itself has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
Software Calibration
If replacing the DCU, the new module will be blank. You must use the CNH EST to flash the correct software payload for your specific machine's PIN/VIN.
Clear and Verify
Clear the fault codes, cycle the key, and run the engine to verify the E2SCR CAN frame is being received and the P0600 code does not return.
