EHR 4144

New Holland EHR 4144 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.4 - Checksum Verification Failure

Issue description

The controller has detected corrupted data, a memory error, or a communication mismatch (checksum error) from the electronic circuit/powerhead inside the Rear Remote Valve #4. The controller is receiving an implausible or unreadable signal from the valve's internal electronics.

Applies to these machines

  • T8 series
  • T8.275
  • T8.390
  • T8.410
  • T9 series

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and the electrical connector at Rear Remote No. 4 for corrosion, moisture, bent pins, or wire chafing.

  2. Verify tractor battery voltage and ground connections. Low voltage or poor grounds can cause data corruption and checksum/communication errors on the CAN network.

  3. Swap the electrical connector from Remote No. 4 to an adjacent remote valve (e.g., Remote No. 3 or No. 5). If the fault code changes to the other remote, the issue is isolated to the electronic powerhead/solenoid on valve #4. If the code remains EHR 4144, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR controller itself.

  4. Attempt a remote lever calibration via the in-cab monitor to see if the controller can re-establish a baseline with the valve.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the remote levers to relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to protect the tractor's electronics.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  4. Remove the Faulty Component

Disconnect the electrical harness from Rear Remote Valve No. 4. Unbolt the faulty remote valve section or electronic solenoid/powerhead from the hydraulic valve stack.

  5. Install the New Part

Install the replacement valve or solenoid. Always use new O-rings lubricated with clean hydraulic oil to prevent leaks between the valve slices.

  6. Reassembly

Torque the mounting bolts to the specific OEM torque specs for your exact model to prevent spool binding. Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

  7. System Calibration

Turn the key on and perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration using the tractor's in-cab display or a dealer diagnostic tool. This is required so the EHR controller can learn the new valve's electronic signature and spool travel limits.
