EHR 4146

New Holland EHR 4146 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.4 - Under Voltage

Issue description

The voltage supplied to the Rear Remote No. 4 valve (or its internal electronic circuit board) has dropped below the minimum operating threshold. This prevents the valve from actuating properly and will typically force the remote into a failsafe or disabled state.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T6 Series (T6.140, T6.150, T6.160, T6010-T6090)
  • New Holland T7 Series (T7.170, T7.185, T7.200, T7.210)
  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check system voltage: Verify that the tractor's battery voltage and alternator output are within normal operating ranges (approx. 12.5V resting, 13.5V-14.5V running).

  2. Perform visual inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear remote valve stack for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation.

  3. Check connectors: Disconnect the electrical plug at the Rear Remote No. 4 valve. Check for pushed pins, water intrusion, or corrosion. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.

  4. Perform voltage drop test: Using a multimeter, verify that the connector is receiving a full 12V supply and has a solid ground.

  5. Perform component swap test: Swap the electrical connector of Remote No. 4 with an adjacent known-good valve (such as Remote No. 3). If the fault code changes to EHR 4139/4142, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR controller. If the fault code remains EHR 4146, the internal electronics of the No. 4 valve section have failed.

Repair steps

  1. Park and secure tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

Relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system by moving the remote levers/joysticks back and forth.

  3. Disconnect battery

    Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  4. Disconnect electrical connectors

Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the rear remote valve stack.

  5. Disconnect hydraulic lines

Disconnect and cap the hydraulic lines attached to the Rear Remote No. 4 section to prevent contamination.

  6. Remove tie-rod nuts

Remove the tie-rod nuts that hold the rear remote valve stack together.

  7. Remove faulty valve section

Carefully slide the faulty No. 4 valve section out of the stack. Note: Be careful not to lose or contaminate the O-rings located between the valve sections.

  8. Clean mating surfaces

Clean the mating surfaces of the adjacent valves.

  9. Install new valve section

Install the new EHR valve section using new O-rings.

  10. Reinstall tie-rods

Reinstall the tie-rods and torque the nuts to the manufacturer's specification.

  11. Reconnect lines and connectors

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical connector.

  12. Reconnect battery

Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

  13. Calibrate valve

Access the tractor's display monitor to assign the correct valve address and run the automated EHR valve calibration procedure (stroking the valve back and forth to learn the neutral, extend, and retract limits).
