EHR 4148

New Holland EHR 4148 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.4 - Spool Deflection Too Short

Issue description

This code indicates that the internal spool inside the 4th rear electro-hydraulic remote valve is not traveling the expected distance when commanded by the controller. This is typically caused by mechanical binding, a failing position transducer (sensor), low pilot pressure, or an electrical issue preventing the solenoid from fully actuating the spool.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T-Series (T6, T7, T8, T9 series)
  • New Holland TS-A Series (e.g., TS115A)
  • New Holland TM Series (e.g., TM175)

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to recalibrate the rear remote valves via the tractor's instrument cluster or service tool to resolve minor wear or temperature changes.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at Rear Remote Valve No. 4 for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or damaged wires causing voltage drops or skewed signals.

  3. Test the position transducer (potentiometer) on the #4 valve for a smooth, linear voltage/resistance sweep to ensure there are no dead spots.

  4. Check for debris or contamination in the hydraulic fluid that could cause the spool to physically stick or bind inside the valve body.

  5. Verify that the hydraulic pilot pressure feeding the remote valve stack is within specification (typically around 20-22 bar / 261 psi on T-series tractors).

Repair steps

  1. Clean and re-seat connectors

Disconnect the electrical harness at the #4 remote valve, clean it with contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect.

  2. Recalibrate

Run the EHR valve calibration procedure. If the code clears and the valve operates normally, the issue was likely calibration drift.

  3. Replace the sensor/potentiometer

If the position transducer fails the electrical sweep test, replace the potentiometer on the valve slice.

  4. Clean the valve

If the spool is physically sticking, you may need to remove the #4 valve slice, disassemble it, and clean the spool and bore.

  5. Replace the valve slice

If the internal solenoid driver is faulty, the spool is scored, or the valve cannot be calibrated after cleaning and sensor replacement, the entire #4 electro-hydraulic remote valve slice must be replaced.
