EHR 4149

New Holland EHR 4149 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) / ECCU2: Rear Remote No.4 - Spool Deflection Excessive

Issue description

The internal spool of the #4 auxiliary remote valve has traveled further than the commanded or physically expected limit. This typically indicates that the spool is mechanically binding, the internal return spring is broken, or the internal position transducer (sensor) has failed and is reading out of range.

Check the cause

  1. Check the #4 rear remote valve for external damage or debris that might cause the manual override (if equipped) to stick.

  2. Restart the tractor to cycle the system, as EHR valves can drop into a safe mode due to a temporary voltage spike or software glitch.

  3. Inspect the EHR control valve wire harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins at the #4 valve connector.

  4. If electrical connectors allow, swap the electrical connection from Remote #3 to Remote #4 (without operating hydraulics under load) to see if the fault follows the wiring/potentiometer or stays with the physical valve.

  5. Attempt to run a remote valve calibration via the tractor's display. Immediate failure indicates the internal transducer or spool is mechanically compromised.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the tractor and cycle the remote paddles to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Access the Valve Stack

    Remove the rear cover or shielding over the rear remote valve stack.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical harness from the #4 remote valve section.

  4. Remove the Valve Section

    Unbolt the tie-rods holding the remote valve stack together. Carefully slide the #4 valve section out, ensuring you do not lose or damage the O-rings between the valve slices.

  5. Install the New Valve

    Insert the replacement EHR valve section with new O-rings. Torque the tie-rods to the OEM specification found in your specific model's service manual.

  6. Reprogram the Valve Number

    Each electro-hydraulic remote valve has a built-in processor that stores its position number (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5). Replacement valves are supplied blank. You must use the tractor's display or a dealer diagnostic tool (EST) to assign the new valve as 'Valve No. 4'.

  7. Calibrate

    Perform the EHR valve calibration procedure to teach the module the new valve's neutral, extend, and retract limits.
