New Holland EHR 4154 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.4 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral
Issue description
The electronic controller has commanded the hydraulic spool for the 4th rear remote to return to its center (neutral) position, but the position transducer/sensor is reporting that the spool has not physically returned. This is typically caused by a mechanically stuck spool, a broken return spring, debris in the valve body, or a faulty position potentiometer.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- T6 Series (T6.120 to T6.180)
- T6000 Series (T6010 to T6095)
- T7 Series (T7.170 to T7.250)
- T7000 Series (T7030 to T7060)
- T8.xxx Series
- T9 Series
- TSA Plus/Deluxe Series (TS100A to TS135A)
Check the cause
Isolate the Valve: Test the EHR remote valves one at a time without any load interference (no implements attached). Because the EHR valve spool and case are not symmetrical, it is important to test both directions of command (extend and retract) to capture the full behavior of the valve.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for related electrical codes on Remote No. 4, such as EHR 4153 (Position Transducer Faulty) or EHR 4152 (Driver Faulty), which would indicate an electrical failure rather than a mechanical bind.
Inspect the Switch: Verify that the in-cab EHR control switch for the 3rd/4th remote is not physically sticking or sending a continuous voltage signal.
Calibration Check: Check if the system has lost its calibration parameters (often accompanied by code 4220: Rear Remote No.4 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated).
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Shut off the engine and actuate the remote levers/switches to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes before servicing.
Inspect Connections
Check the wiring harness and connector at the Rear Remote No. 4 valve section for corrosion or backed-out pins.
Switch Replacement
If the in-cab switch is sticking or failing to return to the neutral detent, replace the EHR 3rd & 4th Valve switch assembly.
Valve Inspection/Replacement
If the electrical inputs are correct but the spool is physically binding, remove the Remote No. 4 valve section from the rear stack. Inspect the spool for scoring, metal debris, or a broken centering spring.
Reassembly and Calibration
If the valve is damaged, replace the entire remote valve section. After reinstalling the valve stack, you must perform the EHR remote valve calibration procedure via the tractor's display so the controller can learn the new neutral set point.
