New Holland EHR 4155 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.4 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On

When the tractor's ignition is turned on, the position sensor (transducer) on the 4th rear electro-hydraulic remote valve detects that the internal spool is not in its centered (neutral) position.

   Verify that the physical lever, paddle, or joystick for Remote No. 4 in the cab is not stuck, obstructed, or failing to spring back to the exact center/neutral position.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the Rear Remote No. 4 valve on the rear valve stack for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Check if the spool itself is physically stuck due to moisture entering the end caps, causing the detent mechanism or centering spring to rust and bind.

   If the spool is physically centered, verify the position transducer/actuator head on the valve is not sending a faulty voltage signal.

   Relieve Pressure

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and cycle the remote levers to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Inspect the Valve End Cap

   Locate Rear Remote Valve No. 4 in the rear hydraulic stack. Remove the small center push-in cap or the slotted plug on the rear end of the valve spool.

   Clean and Free the Spool

   Inspect the detent mechanism and centering spring for rust, broken springs, or debris. Clean the area with penetrating oil and work the spool back and forth until it moves freely and springs back to center on its own.

   Replace Seals/Actuator (If Necessary)

   If the valve is leaking or the electronic actuator has failed internally, remove the actuator head or rebuild the spool using a seal kit. Note: Do not over-tighten the long tie-bolts holding the valve stack together when reassembling, as this can cause the spools to bind (maximum 20 lb-ft torque is recommended for some stacks).

   Calibrate the EHR System

   If the valve, actuator, or position sensor is replaced, you must perform a remote valve calibration. This is typically done through the tractor's in-cab display monitor (e.g., IntelliView) by selecting the specific valve and initiating the automated calibration process.
