New Holland EHR 4156 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - No EHR Control Messages

The Electronic Hitch/Remote (EHR) controller has lost CAN bus communication with the electronic actuator module for Rear Remote Valve No. 5.

   Visually inspect the electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve No. 5 for physical damage, moisture, or severe corrosion

   Disconnect the harness and check for pushed-out pins or broken wires at the connector housing

   Verify that the remote valve module is receiving proper 12V power and a solid ground using a multimeter

   Test the CAN High and CAN Low wires for continuity between the Valve No. 5 connector and the EHR controller

   Check if other remote valves (e.g., No. 1 through No. 4) are throwing similar communication codes to rule out a main CAN bus wiring fault or failed EHR controller

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, relieve hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness from Rear Remote Valve No. 5. Unbolt the valve section or the electronic actuator head from the hydraulic valve stack.

   Installation

   Install the new remote valve/actuator assembly. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications to prevent hydraulic leaks or spool binding.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the tractor's battery.

   Calibration

   Access the tractor's display monitor (or connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool), navigate to the EHR calibration menu, select Remote No. 5, and initiate the automated valve calibration procedure.

   Testing

   Clear the inactive EHR 4156 fault code and actuate the remote valve from the cab to ensure proper spool deflection and communication.
