EHR 4157

New Holland EHR 4157 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Implausible EHR Control Messages

Issue description

The controller is receiving a CAN BUS communication message from the 5th rear remote valve (or its corresponding armrest control) that is corrupted, out of the expected range, or logically inconsistent.

Applies to these machines

  • T6000
  • T7000
  • T7 Series
  • T8.xxx Series
  • T9 Series
  • TSA Series
  • Magnum (Series 4)
  • Puma
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN BUS wiring harness and the electrical connector directly at the Rear Remote No.5 valve block for corrosion, moisture ingress, or backed-out pins.

  2. Test the CAN BUS lines for continuity, ensure there are no shorts to ground or power, and verify proper termination resistance on the network.

  3. Use the tractor's diagnostic display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the EHR 5 lever/joystick position potentiometer voltages, ensuring the voltage sweeps smoothly.

  4. Verify via the display that the system still correctly identifies the valve as No.5 and hasn't lost its memory (EEPROM error).

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Clear the fault code using the tractor's display or EST. Cycle the key to determine if the code is an active hard fault or an intermittent communication glitch.

  2. Wiring Repair

If harness damage or connector corrosion was found during diagnostics, repair the CAN BUS wiring or replace the damaged pigtail at the valve.

  3. Valve Renumbering (Programming)

If the valve has lost its memory or if you are swapping valves to test, you must perform the EHR Valve Number Programming procedure. Use the tractor's display to assign the correct position number (No.5) to the valve's processor.

  4. Valve Calibration

Perform the electro-hydraulic control valve calibration procedure. Initiate the calibration process via the tractor's display to relearn the spool movement and neutral positions.

  5. Component Replacement

If the valve fails calibration, the internal processor is dead, or the implausible message persists despite verified wiring, replace the Rear Remote No.5 valve section or the corresponding armrest switch.
