New Holland EHR 4158 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Checksum Verification Failure
Issue description
The internal memory or software of the processor on Rear Remote Valve No. 5 has failed a data integrity check. This typically indicates internal software corruption or a hard hardware failure of the valve's integrated circuit board.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- T6 series
- T7 series
- T7030
- T7040
- T7050
- T7060
- T8 series
- T8.330
- T8.360
- T8.390
- T9 series
Check the cause
Cycle the tractor's key power to see if the checksum error is a temporary software glitch. If the code returns immediately, it is a hard failure.
Look for accompanying fault codes. EHR 4160 (Under Voltage) or EHR 4161 (Over Voltage) indicate power issues, while EHR 4190-4194 indicate CAN-bus communication issues.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector plugging into Rear Remote No. 5 for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins, which can cause data corruption.
Attempt to run the EHR calibration procedure via the tractor's display. Failure to calibrate confirms the valve's internal module is dead.
Repair steps
Lower all implements to the ground and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.
Ensure the system is depressurized before beginning work.
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Safety precaution before disconnecting electrical components.
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the Rear Remote No. 5 valve section.
Remove the electrical connection to the faulty valve.
Remove the hydraulic lines and couplers attached to the rear of the valve.
Detach the hydraulic connections.
Remove the tie-rod bolts holding the rear remote valve stack together.
Unbolt the stack to access the individual valve sections.
Carefully separate the stack and slide out the faulty Remote No. 5 valve section.
Ensure no dirt or debris enters the exposed hydraulic galleries during removal.
Install the new replacement EHR valve section.
Ensure new O-rings are placed between the valve slices.
Reassemble the valve stack and torque the tie-rod bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
Secure the valve stack back together.
Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.
Restore all physical and electrical connections.
Program the processor's memory and assign it as 'Valve No. 5'.
Crucial Step: Replacement valve assemblies are supplied 'blank'. You must use the tractor's display or a diagnostic service tool to program the processor's memory.
Perform the standard EHR spool calibration procedure.
Learn the neutral, extend, and retract limits for the new valve.
