EHR 4165

New Holland EHR 4165 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Manual Operation

Issue description

The controller has detected movement in the spool of the 5th rear remote hydraulic valve without receiving an electronic command from the cab controls. This code is normally triggered when an operator uses the physical manual override lever/knob, but if logged unexpectedly, it indicates the valve spool is physically stuck, the manual override linkage is jammed, or the spool position transducer is failing.

Applies to these machines

  • T6
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Magnum

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect rear remote valve #5 in the rear hydraulic stack to ensure the manual override lever/knob is not physically jammed by dirt, debris, or ice, and is resting fully in the neutral position.

  2. Check if the spool is physically sticking and unable to return to neutral mechanically.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the position transducer on valve #5 for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or wire chafing.

  4. Use the tractor's diagnostic menu to monitor the live voltage/position reading of the remote #5 transducer for fluctuations while the valve is stationary.

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Free the Linkage

Thoroughly clean the exterior of rear remote valve #5. Lubricate the manual override mechanism and manually actuate it a few times to ensure the spool moves freely and springs back to the exact neutral center.

  2. Service the Electrical Connection

Disconnect the position transducer harness. Spray the connector with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect it securely.

  3. Recalibrate the Valves

Enter the tractor's H-Menu (calibration menu) or use the dealer electronic service tool to perform an EHR remote valve calibration. This will teach the controller the new 'neutral' set point for the spool.

  4. Replace the Sensor/Valve Section

If the spool is not physically binding but the code persists (or if calibration fails), the position transducer has failed internally. Replace the sensor on its own or replace the entire remote valve slice depending on the manufacturer.

  5. Clear and Test

Clear the EHR 4165 fault code. Operate the #5 remote electronically from the cab paddle/joystick to ensure full extension, retraction, and float without the code returning.
