New Holland EHR 4166 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.5 - Output Stage Faulty

Issue description

An electrical failure in the output stage circuit that drives the 5th rear electro-hydraulic remote valve. The system has detected that the driver circuit (inside the controller) or the solenoid coil circuit for this specific remote valve is either shorted, open, or experiencing a voltage irregularity.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the 4-pin electrical connectors running from the EHR controller to the #5 rear remote valve for chafed wires, corrosion, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power.

  2. Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil on the #5 remote valve to ensure it is within specification and not internally shorted or open.

  3. Swap the electrical connection or the solenoid from the #5 remote valve with a known good remote (such as #4). If the fault code changes to the #4 valve, the solenoid/valve is faulty. If the code remains EHR 4166, the issue is in the wiring harness or the EHR controller itself.

  4. Verify that the EHR controller/Armrest module is sending the correct output voltage to the valve pins when the #5 remote is commanded.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Electrical Faults

    If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged harness, repair the broken wires or replace the EHR control valve wire harness.

  2. Replace the Valve/Solenoid

    If the valve's output stage/solenoid is internally shorted or defective, remove the #5 electro-hydraulic remote valve section (slice) and install a replacement.

  3. Address Assignment

    If a new CAN-based EHR valve is installed, the correct CAN address must be assigned to it via the tractor's display before it will function properly.

  4. Valve Calibration

    After replacing the valve, you must calibrate it using the tractor's monitor/display. Navigate to the remote valve calibration menu, select the #5 valve, and initiate the process.

  5. Clear Debris (If Calibration Fails)

    If the calibration fails the first time, manually stroke the valve back and forth to clear any hydraulic debris, then attempt the calibration again.
