New Holland EHR 4169 – EHR: Rear Remote No.5 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On
Issue description
When the tractor is powered on (key-on), the system checks the position of the hydraulic spool valves. If the spool for the #5 rear remote is detected as being out of its centered (neutral) position, the system logs this code and typically disables the remote to prevent unintended hydraulic movement or implement actuation at startup.

Check the cause
Verify that the in-cab paddle, joystick, or switch controlling the #5 rear remote is physically returning to the center/neutral position and is not obstructed by debris or a sticky mechanism.
Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the #5 remote valve block at the rear of the tractor for corrosion, moisture, or damaged pins that could send a false voltage signal.
Perform an isolation test by swapping the electrical connection (or the powerhead itself) between the #5 remote and a known working remote (e.g., #1 or #4). If the fault code changes to the new remote number, the powerhead is faulty. If it remains EHR 4169, the issue is in the wiring or in-cab switch.
Attempt to run a spool travel calibration via the tractor's display monitor to see if the EHR controller simply lost the neutral setpoint.
Repair steps
Clear Debris & Cycle
Turn the key on, manually stroke the #5 remote valve back and forth (if manual overrides are present) to clear any internal debris, and ensure the in-cab lever is perfectly centered.
Recalibrate
Enter the tractor's H-Menu or calibration screen and perform the EHR remote valve calibration procedure. If the calibration passes, clear the code and test operation.
Replace the Powerhead
If the valve failed the swap test or will not calibrate, depressurize the hydraulic system, disconnect the wiring harness from the #5 remote valve, unbolt the electronic powerhead (solenoid/potentiometer assembly) from the mechanical valve slice, and install the new powerhead.
Assign Address and Calibrate
Use the tractor's display to assign the correct address (tell the new valve it is Remote #5) and then perform a full spool travel calibration before it will operate.
