New Holland EHR 4170 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) controller: Rear Remote No.1 Lever Not Calibrated
Issue description
The electronic management system does not have a valid calibration value saved for the spool travel or the physical lever/joystick position for the #1 rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- New Holland T6 series
- New Holland T7 series
- New Holland T8 series
- New Holland T9 series
- New Holland T6030
- New Holland T7030
- New Holland T7040
- New Holland T7050
- New Holland T7060
- New Holland T8.390
- New Holland T9.565
Check the cause
Check if the EHR lever, the EHR valve, or the controller was recently replaced or updated, as new components lack calibration data.
Look for other active EHR error codes (e.g., 4171 open circuit, 4172 short circuit, 4184 joystick potentiometer open circuit) which indicate a hard electrical fault that must be fixed before calibration.
Check the hydraulic system oil for contamination, which can cause valve spools to stick and prevent successful calibration.
Ensure all EHR program switches are in the OFF position and no implements are connected to the rear remotes before attempting calibration.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface away from any obstacles. Firmly apply the parking brake and block the wheels (front and rear).
Disconnect all implements from the rear remotes.
Ensure all EHR program switches are in the OFF position.
Enter the tractor's Calibration Mode.
For instrument cluster models, use the "h", "m", and "dimming" keys to navigate the HH menus to "H1" and select the rear EHR symbol. The lower central display will show "CAL".
Depress the program switch for lever No.1 three times in quick succession.
Wait for the display to count down and show "END".
The display will typically count down (showing 3, then 2, then 1) and finally display "END" to signify the end of the procedure.
Turn the key start switch OFF to store the programming in the module's memory.
Turn the key back ON, clear the error code, and test the system for normal operation.
Replace the EHR lever potentiometer or the EHR valve section if the fault reoccurs or calibration fails.
If the fault reoccurs or calibration fails, the EHR lever potentiometer or the EHR valve section itself is likely faulty and requires replacement.
