EHR 4191

New Holland EHR 4191 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control module: EHR 2 Offline Err

Issue description

Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve #2 has lost communication with the tractor's control network (CAN bus) or is completely offline, typically due to an internal module failure, a severed connection, or a loss of power/ground to that specific valve.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the EHR 2 valve for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Verify that the EHR 2 valve is receiving proper 12V power and ground.

  3. Check the CAN bus communication lines at the valve connector for continuity.

  4. Swap the electrical connector from EHR 2 with an adjacent, known-good valve (such as EHR 1 or EHR 3). If the fault code changes to the corresponding valve's offline code (e.g., EHR 4192 for EHR 3 offline), the EHR 2 valve itself has failed internally. If the code remains EHR 4191, the issue is in the wiring harness or the main controller.

  5. Check the system for related armrest control codes (e.g., 4173 'EHR 2 lever not calibrated', 18042 'EHR 2 lever position voltage too low', or 18043 'EHR 2 lever position voltage too high') to rule out a failure at the cab controls rather than the valve.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery to ensure the system is powered down before servicing the hydraulic electronics.

  2. Repair or replace the affected section of the EHR wire harness

If the diagnostic checks point to a wiring issue, repair or replace the affected section of the EHR wire harness.

  3. Remove the defective EHR 2 valve assembly

If the valve module is internally faulty, relieve hydraulic pressure and remove the defective EHR 2 valve assembly from the rear remote valve stack.

  4. Install the replacement EHR valve

Install the replacement EHR valve and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  5. Reconnect the electrical harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new valve.

  6. Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor

Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor.

  7. Calibrate the newly installed spool valve

Access the tractor's diagnostic display or connect the electronic service tool. Navigate to the TCU (Tractor Control Unit) menu -> EHR -> Calibrate -> Remote Valves to calibrate the newly installed spool valve.
