New Holland EHR 4193 – Main Vehicle Controller: EHR 4 Offline Err / No communications from (EHR) No. 4

The main vehicle controller has completely lost CAN bus communication with the #4 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve module. This means the controller cannot send commands to or receive position/status data from the 4th rear remote spool valve.

   Locate the #4 EHR valve on the rear remote valve stack and visually inspect the electrical connector for dirt, moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Check the wiring harness between the EHR valve and the central controller for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Verify the integrity of the CAN BUS terminating resistor.

   Perform a swap test: Swap the electrical connector of EHR valve #4 with an adjacent, known-good valve (such as EHR #3). If the fault code changes to the other valve, the issue is internal to the #4 EHR valve module. If the fault code remains EHR 4193, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the central controller.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Depressurize

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remote system by cycling the remote levers/buttons with the key on (engine off), or by following the specific depressurization procedure in your operator's manual.

   Disconnection

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the #4 EHR valve section.

   Removal

   Unbolt the tie-rods or mounting bolts holding the rear remote valve stack together. Carefully separate the #4 valve section from the stack, being mindful of the O-rings between the valve slices.

   Installation

   Install the new EHR valve section, ensuring that all inter-valve O-rings are new, lubricated, and properly seated.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall and torque the valve stack tie-rods to the OEM specification. Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Use the in-cab display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored EHR 4193 fault code. You must then perform the EHR valve calibration procedure so the controller can learn the new valve's spool travel limits.
