New Holland EHR 4198 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Hydraulic Remote) Controller: EHR 5 Offline Err

CAN bus communication failure where the main vehicle controller has completely lost communication with the Rear Remote Valve No. 5 module.

   Check the wiring harness leading to the Rear Remote No. 5 valve for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Verify that the remote valve is receiving proper 12V unswitched power and has a solid ground connection.

   Test the CAN bus communication lines at the valve's connector to ensure the signal is reaching the valve's internal processor.

   Ensure the valve has not lost its programmed address (Valve No. 5).

   Steam clean the remote control valve assembly area prior to removal.

   This prevents system contamination.

   Lower the hydraulic links and remove the covers on the remote valve couplers.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the remote valve solenoids.

   Note: Mark or identify the connectors to ensure correct re-installation.

   Using suitable lifting equipment to support the remote valve assembly, remove the base securing bolts and lift the valve stack from the tractor.

   Install the new remote valve slice and re-torque the stack bolts.

   Reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical harnesses.

   Assign Address: Using the tractor's instrumentation or the Electronic Service Tool (EST), program the new valve's processor to identify as Valve No. 5.

   New CAN-based EHR valves are supplied from the parts department with no number assigned.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool: Install the special diagnostic connector (tool part # 380001903 or 380000843) into the diagnostic socket.

   Prepare Tractor: Ensure all implements are disconnected from the rear remotes, the parking brake is firmly applied, and all EHR program switches are in the OFF position.

   Run Calibration: Navigate the instrument cluster menus to the EHR CAL screen and initiate the calibration for the newly assigned valve.

   The valve will stroke back and forth to learn its limits and clear any debris. Note: Never connect an implement to a valve that has not been successfully calibrated.
