EHR 4217

New Holland EHR 4217 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.2 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated

Issue description

This code indicates that the spool travel limits for the second rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve have not been learned by the system. This typically occurs after a new valve is installed, the controller is replaced/reflashed, or if the system loses its memory parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T6 Series (T6.140 to T6.180, T6000 Series)
  • New Holland T7 Series (T7.170 to T7.290, T7000 Series)
  • New Holland T8 Series (T8.275 to T8.435)
  • New Holland T9 Series (T9.390 to T9.700)
  • New Holland TG Series (e.g., TG275)

Check the cause

  1. Check if the #2 remote valve, armrest controller, or EHR module was recently replaced or reprogrammed, as new valves require address assignment before calibration.

  2. Verify there are no active CAN communication codes (e.g., 4191) or joystick/switch circuit codes (e.g., 4184). If present, diagnose the wiring harness first.

  3. Stroke the #2 valve back and forth manually or via the cab controls to clear any internal debris and verify basic mechanical functionality.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Ensure the tractor's hydraulic oil is warmed up to normal operating temperature.

  2. Disconnect Implements

Never connect an implement to a valve that has not been calibrated or is failing calibration. Ensure the rear remote No. 2 couplers are completely free.

  3. Address Assignment

If the valve was just replaced, ensure the correct address (Valve No. 2) has been assigned to its built-in processor using the tractor's diagnostic menu.

  4. Initiate Calibration

Access the tractor's instrumentation display (e.g., IntelliView 12 or earlier monitors). Navigate to the EHR Remotes calibration menu. Select the specific remote valve (Rear Remote No. 2). Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the automated spool travel calibration. (Note: On certain high-horsepower models like the T9 series, OEM special tool #380001903 may need to be connected to the valve block during this procedure).

  5. Troubleshooting a Failed Calibration

If the calibration fails on the first attempt, stroke the valve back and forth for a while to flush the spool, then attempt the calibration again.

  6. Component Replacement

If the valve repeatedly fails to calibrate after flushing, the internal position transducer or the proportional output stage is likely faulty, requiring replacement of the EHR valve assembly.
