EHR 4218

New Holland EHR 4218 – EHR (Electronic Hitch / Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.3 - Valve Spool Not Calibrated

Issue description

The electronic controller has not successfully learned or stored the physical travel limits (end-of-stroke positions) for the spool inside the #3 rear electro-hydraulic remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T6 Series
  • New Holland T7 Series
  • New Holland T8 Series
  • New Holland T9 Series
  • New Holland TG Series
  • New Holland T6000 Series
  • New Holland T7000 Series

Check the cause

  1. Stroke the #3 valve back and forth manually using the cab controls to clear internal debris or free up a sticking spool

  2. Look for other active EHR fault codes (e.g., voltage too high/low, open circuits, or checksum failures) which indicate a wiring harness, connector, or solenoid failure

  3. Verify the correct CAN address is assigned to the valve if the valve stack was recently serviced, replaced, or moved

  4. Disconnect and inspect the electrical harness at the #3 remote valve solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface away from obstacles, firmly apply the parking brake, and block the wheels.

  2. Disconnect implements

Disconnect all implements and hydraulic hoses from the rear remote couplers.

  3. Neutralize controls

Ensure all EHR program switches and levers are in the OFF/Neutral position.

  4. Access diagnostic menu

Access the tractor's diagnostic menu. On some models, this requires plugging a diagnostic connector tool (e.g., CNH special tool 380000843 or 380001903) into the diagnostic socket. On others, it can be accessed via the in-cab display.

  5. Navigate to calibration

Navigate the instrument cluster menus to the 'H1' or 'Rear EHR' calibration menu. The display should show 'CAL'.

  6. Initiate calibration

Select the #3 remote valve. Initiate the calibration (on many New Holland models, this is done by depressing the program switch for the specific lever 3 times).

  7. Allow automatic calibration

The system will automatically stroke the valve to learn the end-of-travel limits.

  8. Retry calibration if failed

If the calibration fails the first time, stroke the valve back and forth for a while to warm the hydraulic oil and clear debris, then attempt the calibration again.

  9. Replace valve components

If the valve repeatedly fails to calibrate, the proportional valve actuator or the valve slice itself is likely internally damaged and requires replacement.
