New Holland EHR 4307 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Deflection Too Short

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the internal spool of the #6 electro-hydraulic rear remote valve is not traveling the expected distance when commanded. The controller monitors spool movement via an internal position transducer (LVDT). When the spool's physical travel is restricted or the sensor fails to read the full range of motion, the "deflection too short" code is triggered. This is typically caused by a mechanical restriction (debris or binding inside the valve), a sticking spool, or a failed position transducer.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the electrical connector at the #6 rear remote valve for corrosion, pushed pins, or moisture.

  2. Swap the electrical connection from remote #6 to another known good remote (e.g., remote #5). If the fault code changes to the corresponding code for the other remote (e.g., EHR 4162 for Remote #5), the issue is internal to the valve section. If the code remains EHR 4307, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the EHR controller itself.

  3. Attempt to recalibrate the electro-hydraulic control valves using the tractor's in-cab display monitor. If the calibration fails specifically on valve #6, the valve is mechanically bound or the internal sensor has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.

    Ensure the tractor is safely parked and implements are lowered before beginning work.

  2. Cycle the remote levers/switches in the cab to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.

    This is a critical safety step to prevent high-pressure fluid release.

  3. Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

    Maintain a clean environment to avoid contaminating the hydraulic system.

  4. Disconnect the electrical harness from the #6 rear remote valve.

    Remove the electrical connection to isolate the valve.

  5. Remove the hydraulic lines and quick couplers attached to the #6 valve section.

    Detach the physical hydraulic connections from the faulty valve.

  6. Remove the tie bolts holding the remote valve stack together.

    Loosen and remove the bolts to separate the valve slices.

  7. Carefully slide out the defective #6 remote valve section.

    Remove the faulty valve from the stack.

  8. Install the new remote valve section, ensuring new O-rings are placed between the valve slices.

    Insert the replacement valve and use new O-rings to ensure a proper seal.

  9. Reinstall the tie bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specification.

    Secure the valve stack back together with the correct torque.

  10. Reconnect the hydraulic lines, quick couplers, and the electrical connector.

    Reattach all physical and electrical connections to the new valve.

  11. Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and use the in-cab display to perform the EHR valve calibration procedure so the controller can learn the new valve's spool travel limits.

    Verify the repair by checking for leaks and calibrating the new valve.
