New Holland EHR 4308 – EHR: Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Deflection Excessive
Issue description
This fault indicates that the internal spool of the #6 rear auxiliary remote valve has traveled further than commanded or expected. The valve's position is monitored by an LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) position transducer. When the EHR controller reads a voltage from the LVDT that exceeds the calibrated maximum travel limit, it triggers this code. This is typically caused by a mechanical internal fault, such as a sticking or binding spool due to debris or scoring, or a failing LVDT position sensor.

Check the cause
Check for related electrical codes, such as EHR 4312 (Rear Remote No.6 - Position Transducer Faulty) or voltage faults, which point to an electrical issue rather than a mechanical spool issue.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the #6 rear remote valve for corrosion, moisture, or pushed pins.
Test the LVDT sensor resistance and 5V reference voltage to ensure the sensor is not shorted or open.
Attempt to manually operate the valve (if equipped with manual overrides) to feel for mechanical binding or sticking.
Check the hydraulic oil for contamination, as debris in the hydraulic fluid is a leading cause of sticking spools.
Attempt to perform a remote valve calibration procedure via the tractor's instrument cluster or diagnostic tool. If the valve fails calibration, the internal sensor or spool is definitively faulty.
Repair steps
Relieve hydraulic pressure
Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the tractor, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system by cycling the remote levers/switches.
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the #6 rear remote valve slice.
Remove hydraulic lines
Remove the hydraulic lines connected to the #6 remote.
Extract valve section
Unbolt the tie-rods/mounting bolts holding the remote valve stack together and carefully extract the #6 valve section (slice).
Inspect and clean spool (if servicing)
Disassemble the valve section on a clean bench. Clean the spool and bore thoroughly. Inspect for scoring or metal debris. If heavily scored, the entire valve section must be replaced.
Replace LVDT or valve section
Install the new LVDT sensor or the complete replacement valve section.
Reassemble valve stack
Reassemble the valve stack, torque the tie-rod bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connector.
Refill and bleed hydraulics
Top off the hydraulic fluid and bleed the system.
Calibrate EHR valve
You must perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the tractor's diagnostic interface so the controller can learn the new spool's neutral, extend, and retract end-of-travel positions.
