New Holland EHR 4309 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.6 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
This code indicates that the spool valve for the 6th rear hydraulic remote is failing to return to its neutral (open center) position when commanded, or the position transducer is failing to detect that the spool has reached the neutral position.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- T6 Series
- T7 Series
- T8 Series
- T9 Series
- Magnum (Series 4)
- Puma
- Vestrum
Check the cause
Check for related codes that might isolate the issue, such as EHR 4310 (Manual Operation), EHR 4311 (Output Stage Faulty), EHR 4312 (Position Transducer Faulty), or EHR 4313 (Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral).
Inspect the wiring harness and the 4-pin/6-pin connectors at the #6 rear remote valve slice for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.
Manually check if the spool in the #6 remote valve is physically sticking or binding due to hydraulic oil contamination or mechanical wear.
Verify the signal voltage from the position transducer on the #6 remote valve to ensure it is reading correctly when the valve is centered.
Attempt to run the EHR Remote Valve Calibration procedure via the tractor's display or service tool to see if the controller can relearn the neutral set point.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and actuate the remote levers/switches to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the rear remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify slice #6 (usually the outermost slice if 6 are equipped).
Disconnect Electrical Components
Unplug the wiring harness connectors from the solenoids and the position transducer on the #6 valve slice.
Inspect/Replace Transducer
Remove the position transducer from the valve body. If the diagnostic checks pointed to a sensor failure, install a new transducer.
Inspect/Rebuild the Spool Valve
If the spool is physically binding: Remove the #6 electrohydraulic valve section from the stack. Disassemble the valve slice and inspect the spool and bore for scoring, metal shavings, or debris. Clean the assembly thoroughly. If the bore or spool is heavily scored, the entire valve slice must be replaced. If no severe damage is found, rebuild the slice using a new OEM seal/O-ring kit.
Reassembly
Reinstall the valve slice into the stack, torque the tie rods to OEM specifications, and reconnect all electrical harnesses.
Calibration
Turn the key on and use the tractor's Tractor Control Unit (TCU) / instrument cluster to perform the "EHR - Calibrate - Remote Valves" procedure.
Test
Start the tractor, check for hydraulic leaks, and actuate the #6 remote to ensure the code does not return.
