New Holland EHR 4314 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On
Issue description
This code indicates that the system has detected the spool valve for the 6th rear remote circuit is physically or electronically out of its neutral (centered) position at the moment the tractor is keyed on or the hydraulic system is activated. As a safety measure, the system will disable the corresponding valve to prevent unintended hydraulic movement.

Check the cause
Verify that the physical lever, paddle, or joystick controlling Rear Remote No. 6 is not bumped out of detent or stuck
Ensure the hydraulic master switch is in the correct position to reactivate disabled valves after centering the controls
Turn the tractor off, ensure the control is perfectly centered, and turn the key back on to see if the code clears
Inspect the EHR Control Valve Wire Harness at the rear valve stack for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose connections
Check the rear remote valve block for physical debris or damage that might be preventing the spool from mechanically returning to center
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.
Inspect the Control Input
If the in-cab control (joystick or paddle) is loose or failing to return to center, the control unit itself may need to be replaced or recalibrated.
Test the Valve Harness
Disconnect the wiring harness at the Rear Remote No. 6 valve section. Use a multimeter to check for continuity and verify that the correct voltage is reaching the valve's position transducer and solenoids.
Clean and Inspect the Valve
Inspect the specific EHR valve section at the rear of the tractor. If the spool is mechanically binding, carefully clean the area.
Replace the Solenoid/Valve Section
If the spool lock solenoid has failed or the internal position transducer is sending an implausible signal (and cannot be serviced separately), replace the affected EHR valve section or solenoid.
Recalibrate
After replacing any EHR hydraulic components or in-cab controls, use the tractor's diagnostic interface to perform a valve calibration procedure so the EHR controller can relearn the new neutral set point.
