EHR 4315

New Holland EHR 4315 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Rear Remote No.7 - No EHR Control Messages

Issue description

The tractor's CAN bus network has lost communication with the 7th rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve. The main controller is not receiving the expected electronic control messages from this specific valve slice. This typically indicates an open circuit in the CAN wiring, a disconnected plug, a failed electronic module on the valve itself, or a software configuration error.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.xxx Series
  • New Holland T9 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at Rear Remote Valve No. 7. Look for corrosion, moisture ingress, backed-out pins, or physical damage to the wires.

  2. Disconnect the EHR valve No. 7 connector. Using a multi-meter, check the resistance of the CAN wiring between terminals 2 and 3 (typically the green and yellow wires). Depending on where you are measuring on the bus, you should see standard CAN resistance (approx. 60 ohms for the whole bus, or 120 ohms if testing an isolated terminating leg).

  3. Verify that the valve is receiving proper 12V power and ground from the harness.

  4. Swap the electronic control head/connection of Remote No. 7 with a known good remote next to it (e.g., Remote No. 6). If the fault code changes to follow the swapped valve (e.g., EHR 4301 for Remote No. 6), the electronic module on the valve is faulty. If the code remains EHR 4315, the issue lies within the tractor's wiring harness or the main processor.

  5. Ensure the tractor's software is correctly configured to recognize 7 remotes. A dropped configuration can cause the controller to stop looking for the valve's messages.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the electronic systems.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring fault, repair the broken CAN bus wires or splice in a new connector pigtail.

  3. Valve Replacement

Clean the area around the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the electrical harness from Remote No. 7. Remove the tie-bolts securing the EHR valve slice to the hydraulic stack. Carefully remove the faulty EHR remote valve section and replace the O-rings between the slices. Install the new EHR remote valve section and torque the tie-bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Software Configuration & Calibration

Reconnect the battery. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor. Download/flash the correct software level to the new valve module and perform the EHR valve calibration procedure so the main controller recognizes the new component.
