EHR 4316

New Holland EHR 4316 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote / Electronic Hitch Control): Rear Remote No.7 - Implausible EHR Control Messages

Issue description

The tractor's electronic control system is receiving data or signals from the 7th rear remote hydraulic valve that do not make logical sense, fall outside of expected operational parameters, or are corrupted.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8 series
  • New Holland T9 series
  • New Holland T7 series
  • New Holland T6 series

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes (e.g., EHR 4317, 4319, 4320, 4321, or 4322) to determine if the issue is power-related or mechanical

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector plugging into Rear Remote Valve No. 7 for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins

  3. Verify that the remote valve slice is receiving proper 12V power and ground, and test the CAN bus lines for continuity and proper resistance

  4. Perform a component isolation swap test: swap the electronic control head of Remote No. 7 with an adjacent remote (e.g., No. 6). If the code changes to EHR 4302, the valve slice has failed. If it remains 4316, the issue is in the harness or main EHR controller

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during service.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remote system.

  3. Clean and Reconnect

Disconnect the electrical harness from Rear Remote Valve No. 7. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Power the tractor on to see if the code clears.

  4. Replace Valve Section

If the swap test proved the valve slice is internally shorted or corrupted, unbolt the faulty electronic control head/slice from the rear hydraulic valve stack.

  5. Install New Part

Install the replacement remote valve section, ensuring O-rings are properly seated, and torque the valve stack tie-rod bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Recalibrate

Reconnect the electrical harness, power on the tractor, and use a diagnostic tool (like CNH EST) to clear the stored EHR 4316 fault code. You must then perform the EHR valve calibration procedure so the main controller recognizes the new valve's spool travel limits.
