New Holland EHR 4317 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.7 - Checksum Verification Failure
Issue description
The internal memory (EEPROM) within the electronic controller for the 7th rear hydraulic remote valve has failed its self-test. The calculated checksum does not match the expected value, indicating data corruption, a software glitch, or an internal hardware failure of the valve's electronic slice.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- New Holland T8.xxx Series
- New Holland T9 Series
Check the cause
Power Cycle: Turn the tractor off, wait for the modules to power down completely, and turn it back on to see if the code is an active hard fault or an intermittent glitch.
Harness & Connector Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector plugging into the #7 rear remote valve slice. Look for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins that could cause communication errors or voltage drops.
Software & Calibration: Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if there is a software update available for the EHR system. Attempt to re-calibrate and renumber the rear remote valves.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Lower all implements to the ground, relieve hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the tractor's battery.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the #7 rear remote valve slice.
Disassemble the Valve Stack
Remove the tie bolts that hold the rear remote valve stack together.
Remove the Faulty Valve
Carefully slide the #7 remote valve slice out of the stack.
Install the New Valve
Install the replacement electronic valve slice. Crucial: You must replace all O-rings and back-up rings (e.g., between the slices) to prevent internal hydraulic leaks.
Reassembly
Reinsert the tie bolts and torque them to the OEM specification. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Renumber and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery. You must use the tractor's display or the CNH EST to perform the 'Valve Renumbering' procedure so the EHR controller recognizes the new #7 valve on the CAN bus, followed by a full remote valve calibration.
